Reincarnated History:
The Momo Kisaragi of Locke City has had a perfectly charmed life.
Born and raised in the city, she's the only child of parents who saw no problem at all with spoiling their daughter rotten. Financially stable enough to do so, they've met just about her every whim and fancy since she was a child, ranging from dolls to dance lessons to that puppy she just absolutely had to get.
It did prove itself to be somewhat of a problem when she started school, as the attitude such an upbringing will give a child is hardly the most pleasant, but she managed to make friends with more like-minded children anyway (read: the kids whose families were more well off), even if most of these friendships never seemed to last for more than a couple years. She was never overly bothered by it though, not when she'd inevitably make friends with someone new. And her parents were so proud of their daughter, too, after all.
And when she started struggling in school, her grades slipped, and it became clear to all of them that academics really just weren't her strong suit? Well, that just couldn't be allowed to go on. Her parents arranged for extra tutoring, extra time spent on her studies, and she absolutely hated it, but it was one thing her parents wouldn't budge on, the one thing they wouldn't give her when she asked. And wasn't that just terrible?
In any case, she'd never manage to be more than a solid C and B student, but she did manage to raise her grades and eventually made it to high school... where she is right now, of course.
She's currently a student in the 11th grade, still attends dance lessons, and is still as much of an insufferable spoiled brat as she's ever been.
First Echo: On a Saturday afternoon out, she and her friends ended up at a chain pizza restaurant. Momo had her phone out, texting away, when their waitress came back, tripped, and spilled her tray of sodas right on her-- and her phone. It was annoying, of course it was, but that was easily forgotten with the memory it brought on: a smaller girl spilling a drink on her, another one staring in shocked silence, a boy laughing, and the absolute certainty that the spilled drink didn't even matter. It wasn't a big deal, not if she was with her friends.
She couldn't even be mad at the waitress.
Preincarnation Personality:
Momo's not that different from a normal teenage girl. She likes making friends and hanging out with them, likes thrill rides and games-- and she's a mean shot in video games. Completely normal, really... except for the part where she's not.
Between her eye ability and her status as a celebrity, she's unable to so much as go out most of the time, at least not without being practically mobbed by passers-by. As a result, she's grown isolated and friendless (...not that she ever really had friends before that) and it's led to her becoming more timid and more insecure in herself, to the point where she's begun to doubt the dreams she once had of herself as an idol. Before learning more about her powers, the entire situation is extremely confusing and distressing for her, with her unable to understand why people are so captivated by her, why someone like her would capture the attention of so many people. "Am I really that good? I'm just a bore - I don't get it!"
More than anything, she wants to be just another normal girl-- or as normal as she can be while being an idol. Hence why, once she meets the Mekakushi Dan and not only learns about her ability, but begins to make friends with the other members of the group (her very first friends!), things start to change. She begins to feel more confident in herself, to become much more cheerful all the time. In short, she starts to move away from the girl troubled by the fact that she faced no end of problems and starts to truly act like herself.
Because, in the end, Momo really is a very cheerful and friendly girl, downright exuberant. She's loud and quick to laugh, always willing to show just how very happy she is at any given time.
She's quickly taken by the other members of the group and is very enthusiastic about getting to make friends with all of them, for one. Even when she learns that Mary's part medusa, aside from the initial surprise, she thinks nothing more of it, as excited as she is to befriend the girl. Not only that, but she's extremely grateful to them as well, even offering to do whatever she can to help out around their headquarters, just as thanks. The fact that she can be normal around them is incredibly meaningful to her, after all, what she'd always hoped for in her friends.
With their support, she becomes much more optimistic as well, a trait that had been buried under the worries brought on by the recent events in her life. Momo learns to see that, though things may be difficult at any given time, as long as she has her friends backing her up, she can just keep moving forward. Giving up no longer has to be an option, because she knows she can keep going and that in the end, everything really will be all right. And it's all thanks to the strength she finds in her friends.
She can also be quite encouraging to others, urging them to find their strength and go on, however they can. It's not just lip service either; she truly believes others can achieve what they want, no matter how difficult it is. As she says in one of her songs, "I believe in you because you're you!"
Of course, getting to act as a normal girl also means her more... eccentric side comes to the forefront, though she does try to hide it. She's described by her brother as spending her nights locked up in her room, watching Let's Play videos, and laughing to herself "like an old man" as she eats dried squid, for instance, something she's very embarrassed to have found out. She knows she's got some odd hobbies and likes and, while she's not exactly looking to change them, she's still quite embarrassed to have anyone find out about them.
Momo likes a lot of strange things in general, really, even her official profile describing her as having "a peculiar sense in taste and fashion." The hoodie she often wears, for instance, is described as very strange by her brother, something someone in a game show would wear. But she insists it's perfectly fine and that she likes it just fine. Her odd taste in food is the most prominent of her strange habits though. To illustrate it, in one scene in the novels, the other members of the group find receipts in her wallet for foods she regularly buys... and they're all incredibly strange foods, ones the others think are disgusting. Even so, she's still elated when she thinks Mary actually likes one of those foods as well (...only to be disappointed when she actually doesn't).
Of course, as mentioned before, Shintaro doesn't hesitate to bring up the things he considers are strange about her, prompting her to fire right back about his own habits. Much like most pairs of siblings, the two of them bicker quite often. In retaliation to his teasing of her, Momo constantly insist that her big brother is "so uncool" and "so lame" and spends too much time watching porn online. However, in the end, she really does care about him, even though it'd be difficult to get her to admit it. She was worried when she saw him outside the house for the first time in two years, after all. She couldn't even believe her eyes!
In further contrast to her brother, a veritable genius, Momo's not exactly book-smart. Early on in the manga, she's given back a science exam she'd taken before... with a score of two out of one hundred, even after having taken two weeks of supplementary lessons. Her results show she's got a rather strange way of thinking as well, having answered a question asking for a mammal with "crab salmon," of all things, for example. It makes her come across as somewhat absentminded as well, further shown by how much trouble she has with names. When she's not outright forgetting them, she often mixes them up, such as with the name of the Mekakushi Dan itself, which she was convinced was actually the "Mekameka Dan" for a while there.
It leads to a tendency to put her foot in her mouth as well and she knows it. She's prone to saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and realizing far too late that she's done it... then going into a panic and apologizing profusely. It's not that she's insensitive, not really. She's just not very good at thinking things through before she says them. Or at saying the right thing even when she does think it through. Or at actually dealing with people.
Any differences:
The major difference here is the lack of Momo's eye powers. Having never had to deal with the ridiculous amounts of unwanted attention, she's been able to truly grow up as a normal teenage girl. Not only has she actually made friends, but even being able to leave the house whenever she pleases is a big change. Not being isolated, she never went through a timid phase and never found herself with only her family to rely on. So she's not a total social failure this time around and is somewhat more adept at social niceties. That is, she can go an entire conversation without putting her foot in her mouth.
Furthermore, she's never had to deal with tragedy in her family either. Both her parents are very much alive and she doesn't have a brother at all! Instead, she's been spoiled and coddled by her parents her whole life. It means she's very happy and confident, certainly, but it's also led to her becoming... a somewhat more unpleasant person in general. Perhaps a bit too confident, she's rather haughty now, the very image of a (wannabe) high school queen bee. No longer the encouraging girl her preincarnation was, she sees problem with looking down on or outright ignoring anyone she considers beneath her and has absolutely no intention to change that about herself.
Her interests are also very different now. She doesn't care at all about video games or even singing this time and would rather spend her time picking out a new outfit, going to the movies, or dancing now. Most significantly though, her tastes in food, clothes, and the likes are much more... well, normal. Her choices in clothing wouldn't be out of place in just about any teenage girl's closet. And the very idea of eating dried squid would have her gagging. Give her a burger or a slice of pizza any day. She's not some old man eating squid or vanilla beans with curry, gosh.
Lastly, while she's still not very book-smart, she's not quite as hopeless this time. It's partially due to extra tutoring, but she still actually manages to have decent grades now and isn't constantly in danger of flunking out.
Abilities:
Momo has what's referred to as the "Eye Captivating" ability. As the name might imply, it basically draws people's attention toward her and away from everything else, to the point where they simply can't look away from her. Additionally, if she so chooses, she can also draw people's attention toward objects instead of to herself.
She can avoid its effects by covering her eyes-- which turn red when she uses this ability.
She's also pretty good at shooting games.
Roleplay Sample - Third Person:
This had to be some kind of joke. It just had to be.
Past lives, shady cops, memories... and snake statues?! It all sounded like it should be the plot of one of those movies her parents liked to watch, the ones she'd absolutely never tell her friends about, not if she wanted to avoid dying of embarrassment. (Who could stand watching something so geeky anyway? Seriously?) This kind of thing just didn't happen in real life. Not ever.
Yet, the messages she'd found, each one stranger than the last, after very carefully typing in that strange number in her browser were certainly very, very real. As she scrolled through them, lingering on each one only long enough to read the first few lines, it was becoming increasingly clearer that something was going on. Or, at least, these people certainly seemed to believe it, for some strange reason. Which meant either this kind of thing really did happen in real life... or she'd somehow stumbled on a group of people who were clearly deluded. Unsurprisingly, neither possibility was very comforting.
What in the world had she gotten herself into?
Momo huffed, pushing her chair away from her desk, her broken phone catching her eye where it sat on her nightstand. With a sigh, she stood to retrieve it, turning it over in her hands once she'd done so.
It'd all started when that waitress had spilled those drinks on her the other day, hadn't it? She'd gotten that weird memory and the soda had ruined her phone... and she still couldn't quite decide which of the two was worse. Oh, she knew she should have said something to the waitress then, should have complained to a manager or something, instead of sitting there feeling relaxed of all things.
It just wasn't fair. Her phone was ruined and now she had a group of people who were obviously crazy filling up her computer screen.
Worst of all though, was the fact that she was actually considering talking to them, was actually considering asking them about this mess, asking them why she had to be a part of it?
"I guess I can try..." she whispered to herself, slowly making her way back to the desk. "I guess."
